-   I have been to Rafton, Ut and Silver Reef, Ut Just last week. The pictures you have are very out of date. All of the houses in Grafton are now being re done and you can only go in one of them. They are also watched by camera's at all times. It tells you this as you enter the town. They have also re done the cematrey. There is now a fence around it and some of the headstones have been re done. I also have some pictures of both of these area's if you would like them for your website please feel free to lat me know. Thank you for helping me find these great places to see.

-   Hi, I have gotten my permit awhile ago, and I did a drive recently from Las Vegas to Barstow and back. I love the desert driving; I love the scenery and the overall beauty of nature itself. It's just so beautiful. Then we passed Calico Ghost Town on our way, and I've always been curious. Considering that I live near ghost towns, I think I should go and look at a few, although my dad doesn't like this stuff... But this site is cool, I love looking at the pics and I can't get enough! Thanks! Have a good day! Albert

-   hi,my name is orla and im just after getting back from a most insightful, eye - opening, exhilerating voyage of my entire 19 year life span!!!! if you're wondering where I went, i can tell u it was the Texan ghost town of Orla!! im from Ireland, but I am of American ancestory, my great great grandparents lived in Orla when it was a prosperous and booming gas and oil town. I was planning to visit the local library of Orla, but then i realised such an amenity did not exist in this town, then again not a lot does, but i find this intruiging. Therefore, I plan to relocate to Orla and become its third inhabitant and run for govenor of Orla. My aims as govenor of Orla will be to campaign for better lunch meat and a second toilet for the town. Looking forward to meeting all of you two in Orla. Together we make Orla great. -   I am A Disabled American Veteran and a Ex-teacher, educated in the area of Special Eduaction. Through my teachings I discovered, when I was in school we studied about the old west in my history classes, today the old west is no discussed/studied. So I am interested in obtaining pictutes of ghost towns especially buildings with a lot of detail inside. I have in mind of building a small scale western/ghost town (mabe a park) for elementary school children. So they can experience a taste of the old west.

-   Magic pictures about Bodie, I like that one that showes you in the mirror. Great! We will go to USA/CA this October. I saw in some newspapers here in Berlin pictures from your website about Bodie. Love that. So again great pictures good website. Question: How old will be a person that had lived in Bodie 1960 when he/she was 20, around 70? They are still alive. Would be great to hear some stories about that time. There is statement of a young lady that went to Bodie, she should have said: "Good Bye god - I go to Bodie" See you 10/2008 in Bodie. :-) Frank

-   I enjoy looking at photos of ghost towns and reading about their great history. I am a little dissapointed with some of the lack of information and pictures of some of the Nevada ghost towns. I have lived in some and have partied in the others. Tonopah, Belmont, Manhaton, Goldfield and a few others have such a great history and stories to go with them. I was kind of supprised that you didn't have more information about them. But the few pictures you did have were great.

-   Hi, we own the Gem Mine property just above Susanville. I have been in and out of the area for over 40 years and my family almost 100. Sad to see the Mill and other buildings be ravaged by vandals and weather. Have many photos of the original town if you would be interested. The small building you have a picture of is one of the first general stores and sat behind a two story building in the 1905 picture. The old trailer that was fully intact many years ago is now in pieces but I recall when it looked new. The home you showed was occupied by a friend of mine and his family while they worked the Ophir Mine in the 60's. Bob Benton

-   I really enjoy'd the Sites. Brought back a lot of memories of when I was younger. Ammazing how people would build up a city/cities of such size and then leave everything behind. I love to travel and have enjoyed some of the places you listed and some of the places that weren't. I wish though that there was more info on the towns. Do you have any listings and photos of Washington and Idaho for the future as that's where I'm origonal from. Thanks Mike Klins Dickson Tennessee

-   Fascinating! A correspondent-friend who lives in Reno Nevada USA got me interested in ghost towns and mining activity in Nevada. Until then, I'd assumed the American West was all about cowboys and so forth ( coming from England, I just didn't know better lol ). Your site is marvelously educational and entertaining. Thank you! :)

-   also found website after reading my local newspaper (Express & Star, UK). Have always been fascinated by the tales of the wild west and frontier towns and the photos on display are awesome. Can't believe how much is still left from such a ling time ago. In the UK there would be barely anything left unless it had been preserved by the National Trust. Makes you realise how big the US is compared to UK. Would love to go and actually visit some of theses places in the near future. Wouldn't be disappointed at not seeing any real ghosts like some people have mentioned - do you really understand what the term "Ghost Town" actually means. It isn't to be taken too literally!!

-   Great pictures. I really enjoyed the towns in Montana. I live in Lewis & Clark County and spend most of my time traveling to photograph ghost towns. It is interesting to see the difference between 2000 and today. I recently spent the day photographing Comet and it is much worse shape than it was when you were there. The stove in the Bannack series is now inside the Meade Hotel. I have photographs of it in several different locations around town since I started going there in the seventies... The buildings in Elkhorn have also fallen on hard times, even though the saloon/fraternity hall/doctor's house are now ia state park...

His name was also Jim Gibson,One of his good friends was judge Joe Drew. And the Colvins.I remember so many nice people, but this was a long time ago.ORA ROPER comes to my mind.I am 49 now and I started visiting Goldfield at the age of 8. There were streets with old houses, still furnished Goldfield Hotel was full of most of its content's. The siren at the fire station would start, it seems at noon?People driving through from out of town would pull over ,looking around. The locals at the northern would get a bang out of that.I AM sitting here a grown man ,cant even see the screen my eyes started watering just typing this message.Anyway Goldfield Nev. What a town!!!

-   Hello! My mother and I just visited Elkhorn, MT on 9-29-05 after a 31 year absense (6-28-74). Only 2 buildings really intact were Gilliam Hall and the Fraternity Hall. Many more buildings we saw there in 1974 are now gone or leaning into the ground! In 1974, we had to be let in by the owner of the grounds through a huge gate and fence. Since then, the place has been declared a state park! People actually live (?) there once again and there's a huge rock pile at the north end of the village. Far as I'm concerned, people moving back really ruined the place for good. They should've just left up the damn gate! I couldn't remember the old car lying in the south end of town. What is it? I belive it's a Ford Model A, a 1930's model. Any forensic auto diggers out there know? A note about Bodie, CA, by the way: the rock group U-2 had their pictures taken there back in the 80's. Look for these somewhere. Also, anyone who might have pictures of Elkhorn from the 70's - 80's or just before people began moving back there ought to send them to this site. I'd certainly appreciate seeing the Elkhorn I remember from my childhood! Rest of website is great! Thanks for posting!

-   I have been to Bodie several time in past years,it is amazing how that town has stood the test of time, you definintly step back in time when walking down the streets of Bodie and forget about the world of today for a short time, being a member of E Clampus Vitus I go to Bridgeport once a year for a Plaquing of a lesser known historical event of the gold rush era to commerate and pay tribute to the people who settled the west and left their mark in history in some small but not totally forgoten way. thanks for a great site, as the clampers would say "SATISFACTORY" and so recorded.

-   I'm so happy to discover your site. I grew up in Kelso, CA during the 40s. There's something about a 'ghost town' that you just can't get ignore. I remember that UP Depot when it was a paradise of green lawn and trees and swaying oleanders. It was the centerpiece of society. We feasted in its 'beanery' on Sunday afternoon, went to it's movie show in the basement on Thurs. nights and worshiped in its "Sunday School" on Tuesday nights thanks to a wonderful pastor who came out from Yermo to bring the Lord to us--this was the only church in town and why it remains a Cathedral in my memory. Thanks for including in your great website.

-   Great site. Wonderful photos and examinations of the "in-between" areas of the West. I'm a photographer living in El Paso, Texas, and I spend a great deal of free time exploring, and photographing the areas near Magdelena, NM, and Sierra County. I love being there. It's good to see that a few people have encountered so much within the quiet forgotten places, and left the busy metro-vacation spots for something much more interesting. Keep up thegood work. 29-7-2004, prorock@interia.pl
-   I think anyone who seeks out old abandoned towns strictly to view and/or photograph is always hoping for that pristine environment and the feeling that they are the first person to find the town in the last 50-100 years. A town were the original occupants just closed the doors and walked away leaving everything behind because all the reasons they settled in the town had disappeared and there was no reason to stay any longer.
27-7-2004, photovideo@comcast.net
-   Its warming to see those old buildings standing up to time.Good on you for preserving the buildings of the past because my freind those buildings wont stand forever.
26-7-2004, robM , rob59dell4@shaw.ca
-   Unfortunately the pictures displayed are technically mediocre and merely impressive to amateurs. The compositions of the subjects are testimony of the hurry the photographer was in. The photographer was likely some tourist racing through numerous sites and just clicking away without regards to the most basic principles of fine art photography. It is disgrace on display.

I am in possession of an original ledger from the mine store and an original deed when he sold it to Phelps Dodge, but it's all in Spanish. I also have several receipts and sales and shipping receipts. I have never been there, but hope to some day. The photos help my memories of my mom talking about the mine and my great grandfather. Like into the upper Sweetwater River in south of Riverton, Wyoming. We would spend up to 3 days away from civilazation to measure the amount of water flowing in the Rivers. You can guess all of the hidden Ghost towns in the area. Your Ghost Town Gallery is really great--love it. We lived in the Wyoming area in 1949-50

Thru yr. site I've renewed the pleasure and experience, so that I'll certainly come again to enjoy those pieces of history which links the first settlers nd pioneers with their countryn of origin, Europe.
